Welcome to the GRIN Assembly Home Page

What is GRIN?

GRIN is a building-wide self-esteem building program that has been in place at McLane Elementary since 1988.  It was developed by staff to focus on each individual student and to develop a sense of community throughout the school.  GRIN stands for Global Responsible Individuals Nurturing one another.  The entire school comes together each Friday morning to participate in assemblies filled with music, skits, recognition, learning and fun! Assemblies are held from 9:10-10:00.  Hope to see you there!

 100 Mile Club

McLane students are running, walking, rolling, jumping, & hoop-shooting their way around the USA.  In the 100 Mile Club, volunteer parents are meeting students out on the track during noon lunch to encourage students to make their way toward our all school goal.  If going around in circles doesn't sound appealing, students can jump rope or play a rousing game of basketball in the gym.  Each week individual totals as well as classroom totals are announced at our GRIN assemblies.  Classes with the most miles get to wear the BIG SHOES for the week.  As a school, we've accumulated enough miles to get us all the way to Florida!  Keep up the good work everyone!

Eye Saw Awards

We owe special recognition each week to students who are helping to build a positive environment here at McLane.  Some of the different kinds of awards we give out are Big Help, Good Sport, Kindness, Respect, Leadership, and Hard Work.  We look forward each week to rewarding these kids.

Reading Awards

Our librarian has students motivated to read at McLane!   Students that read ten books in a series or ten non-fiction books will receive a gift certificate to Barns & Nobels as well as a readng award for their accomplishments.  McLane students have read HUNDREDS of books.  Keep up the good work!

Grin Critters

A GRIN Critter is a student from each classroom that has been designated as the GRIN Critter for the week.  Each class honors their GRIN Critters in various ways including taking on leadership roles, as well as sharing indivdual interests, and highlighting strengths.  Teachers and classrooms generate an award to be read at the beginning of each GRIN assembly.
