RECENT HAPPENINGS

Where in the World are We From?

3rd Grade began the year with a "Where In the World Are We From" unit of study. Students researched countries related to their ancestry and created "Me Dolls" to present to families and staff. We built community by learning about one another and celebrating our diversity.

Leadership Students Support Recess

Many 5th graders have stepped up to be leaders across our school. Take a look at some of the amazing students who help out our younger McLane Owls at recess! Leadership students teach and join in games, help students solve problems, and work with staff to keep our playground fun and safe.

Multicultural Night and Community Dinner Was a Smashing Success!

Last Friday evening the McLane PTSO put on our first big event of the school year. Families and friends of McLane came together for a community dinner provided by volunteers. While eating together and building community, we were entertained by a variety of performances highlighting the diversity of our community. We were impressed by demonstrations from US Martial Arts and performances from Samba OlyWa, Flamenco Dancers from Olympia Dance Center, Indian American STAR Foundation, Westside CoOp Preschool, and TNTT Lion Dancers.

Huge thanks to the PTSO for organizing this amazing evening.

FROM YOUR PTSO

October 5-23 - Annual Readathon

Get those books ready for our annual Readathon!  Please check your student(s) backpack for all of the information via the Readathon packet, or find it HERE.

Our theme this year is “The Art of Reading” and our fundraising goal is $10,000. While fundraising is optional; we hope that all students participate in the reading challenge. Families can easily get started HERE and then share their students' unique pledge page to friends and family. If you have any questions, please reach out to president@mclaneptso.org  Happy Reading Owls!

October 9th - Daffodil Bulb Fundraiser

For the first time, families can buy bags of the very same daffodil bulbs students will be planting along the Ralph Munro Trail. Plant your own daffodils at home and see them bloom around the same time as the thousands planted by our students over the years. Bags will be available for purchase at the PTSO table on the Daffodil Planting day during pickup and dropoff. They will be $10 each or $15 for 2 bags (approx. 8-10 bulbs per bag). 100% of the profits will go toward supporting the McLane PTSO.

October 12th - Monthly PTSO Meeting

6:00–7:30pm. Everyone is welcome! Come learn more about what the PTSO is working on, share your ideas, and find out how you can get involved. You can join us in person or via Zoom.

October 30th - Harvest Festival

We are excited to bring back our hugely popular Harvest Festival and hope to make this year’s event even bigger and better! If you would like to volunteer, please sign up HERE. If you have any questions about the event, contact Alisha at fundrasingmanager@mclanepsto.org.
