Community Invited to Public Hearings on Possible School Consolidation

Posted Date: 10/02/26 (05:10 PM)

As part of the Olympia School District’s ongoing long-term planning process, the district will hold three public hearings in October at the elementary schools currently being considered for possible consolidation.

The hearings give families, staff, and community members an opportunity to share feedback directly with the Olympia School Board. Community members may participate in person or via Zoom, and speakers will have up to three minutes to provide public comment. If more than 50 people sign up to speak, the time limit for all speakers will be reduced to two minutes per person to better ensure everyone has an opportunity to participate within a reasonable timeframe.

Please Note: Only the person providing a comment may request a spot. You cannot request a spot or speak at the hearing on behalf of someone else. Speakers must request their own spot and provide their own comments, unless they need assistance signing up or communicating due to a disability or as part of an accommodation. We ask speakers to please speak at only one hearing so that members of each school community have the greatest opportunity to be heard at their school’s hearing.

To request disability accommodations, please call the Clerk of the Board (360) 596-6114 three (3) days before the meeting date. People with hearing or speech disabilities may access Washington Relay by dialing 711 or 800-833-6388.

Public comment sign-ups for each hearing will open seven days before that hearing. Sign-up links will be available in the district calendar posting for each hearing, in BoardDocs, and in the district news item for each hearing posted on the district and school homepages.

The hearings are scheduled for:

  • Monday, October 12 at 6 pm: McKenny ES (sign-ups open Oct. 5)
  • Thursday, October 15 at 6 pm: LP Brown ES (sign-ups open Oct. 8)
  • Monday, October 19 at 6 pm: Madison ES (sign-ups open Oct. 12)

Community members are welcome to participate in any of the three hearings, regardless of which school they are connected to.

Limited Childcare will be provided.
