We are excited to see all of the progress on the mini building which has been named the “Owl’s Nest”.  We will be starting next school year with 3rd, 4th, 5th and Life Skills in the Owl’s Nest during the main building remodel.  We will have an Open House in the fall for all of the community to take a look!

One important item for after school is out this year and during August and September is that the main office is being remodeled and the temporary office will be located in the Owl’s Nest from the last day of school until we are able to move back into the main office area.  We will put up signage once summer construction begins to access the office area which will be located just outside of the existing playshed.  The phone number will be the same 360-596-6600.

Friday,  May 11th - Sports Day

Remember to call the Attendance Line at 360-596-6603 to report any absences or late arrivals. The office needs to know as soon as possible. This is a 24-hour recording phone line. Please feel free to call this number at any time that you are aware that your child will be late or absent.

As stated in the Olympia School District Handbook, dress and appearance must not present health or safety problems or cause learning disruption. Students and staff at McLane should be appropriately dressed. Any clothing that has a sexual, vulgar, offensive message or references the use of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or gang affiliation, or limits activities will not be permitted.

  • Tennis shoes are encouraged, especially for physical education and recess activities. High heels (one inch or more) and flip flops are discouraged for these activities because of safety issues. If students do not have appropriate shoes they may be asked to sit out during P.E.
  • Spaghetti straps, tank/tube tops, and halters are strongly discouraged. Bare midriffs or low cut tops are not allowed.
  • Extreme baggy pants and low riding pants are discouraged.
  • Clothing chains and “gang” symbols are not allowed.
  • Hats are not allowed inside the building. If there is a religious, medical, or other specific reason for wearing them, please contact the principal. Teachers and administration have the authority to meet with a student if the dress is creating a safety issue or a disruption to the learning environment. Parents would be notified if the attire is determined by staff to be inappropriate or disruptive.

CLASS OF 2025 (6th Grade 2018)

Please Remember to turn in Registration forms for Marshall to the McLane Office

Friday, June 8th at 9:30 - 11:00 - Fifth grade Move-up Day - 5th grade students from Hansen, McLane and Lincoln visit MMS (This is a ½ day of school for elementary and middle schools in Olympia)

Students should not bring toys, personal and valuable items to school unless requested or approved by the teacher for special activities/sharing time. This request includes electronic toys, iPods, and cell phones, etc. We cannot guarantee the safety of these items.  Students should also not bring cough, drops, lip balm, sunscreen, etc. as we will not allow students to use or share these items.  Thanks for your support.

If you are planning on  moving over the summer and will not be attending McLane in 2018-2019 please let the office know before the end of this school year.  McLane Office 360-596-6600.

Packets are available in the front office. Students must be five years old before September 1st in order to register. A birth certificate, proof of residency, and proof of immunizations are required to register. Please tell your neighbors and friends to come in!  Upon returning the completed packets, we will sign up parents and student for our “A Taste of Kindergarten” event on Friday, June 8.

The end of the school year is quickly approaching and that means it’s time to find all those library books and get them turned in.  Usually this process starts the first week in June, but this year we need to start in mid-May due to the building remodel that will be commencing the day after school lets out.  McLane’s library shelves will be emptied the first weeks in June so we will need to get books returned much sooner than usual.

Overdue/lost book notices will come out mid-May so families will have time to clear their student’s account.  Books do get lost and or damaged sometimes no matter how careful we are, but don’t worry because there are ways to help.  Options include: sending the dollar amount for the book and Mrs. Moore will purchase a new one, replace the book yourself, or donate comparably priced books from home to replace the lost/damaged book.  If none of these options work, please give Mrs. Moore a call to work something out.
