November Newsletter 2017

Principal Notes

School safety is our number priority at McLane Elementary School.  We continue to work with Neeley Construction to make sure that the asphalt play area is safe when trucks are entering or leaving the back play area.  We have practiced this with the students and they know to stop when they hear whistles on the playground.  We should have the new fence to secure the recess area in the next few weeks.  Thank you for being flexible with construction trucks and school buses when you are dropping off or picking up your student(s).

The new mini-building is going up quickly!  They will be lifting up the roof sections this week.  The students love to see the big cranes and big equipment moving around.  We plan to move A-pod and Life Skills into the new mini-building towards the end of the school year, so that the main building modernization can start in A-pod before we are out of school.

We will be having a parent meeting to look at the plans for the main building modernization.  The meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 15 at 6:00 pm in the library.  Please join us to view the plans for the modernization.

Individual Retakes

Picture Retakes - Thursday, November 2nd

If you would like your student to have retakes, please pick up an order form which are available in the office.  If you choose to order online at (Picture Day ID: LS217069Q1) please send your child with a note so the teacher knows to send your student down for a retake.  Also if you have photos and would like a retake, please have your child bring their pictures back to school to get retakes.

Dress For the Weather

As the weather gets cold and wet, it makes sense the students will come to school with multiple layers of clothing. In order to ensure your students, come home with the same clothes they arrived in, please make sure all coats, hoodies, gloves and hats are labeled with student names. If you provide a name, we will make sure to get clothing back to your children if they accidently leave it behind. Your help could help to eliminate the need for a Lost and Found at school.  Speaking of Lost and Found, don’t forget to check it out, there are a lot of unclaimed, unlabeled items in there.

McLane Trail Bulb Planting

Students bulb planting

A very special 'thank you' to everyone who helped us with the McLane Elementary School bulb planting.  This effort to insure that  each McLane Elementary School student 'plants something every year' has been carried out for more than 20 years.

On Oct. 12th we planted 6000 daffodil bulbs in the McLane School neighborhood. This could NOT be accomplished without the many volunteers who have assisted. A special 'thank you' to McLane Fire Department, the Thurston County Sheriff's office, The Evergreen State College police department, and many volunteers. You are all MUCH appreciated.

Holiday Gift Giving Tree

Holiday Tree

Preparations for the Holiday Giving Tree are in the works. This is a wonderful way to support those in our McLane Elementary Community.  Last year this program assisted 36 children and 17 families from our very own McLane Elementary. The Giving Tree will be up in the school, Monday, November 27th, to remind us to purchase gift cards.  Just purchase a gift card and turn it into the office. This year we are asking for $25 gift cards from Target and Safeway.  That way families can purchase food and gifts to suit their needs. Gift cards or cash donations must be received by Monday, December 11th.

Please donate by Monday, Dec 11th There are 2 EASY ways to give:

  1. Purchase gift cards in $25 increments to Safeway and Target and drop off to the McLane office.

  2. Send in cash/checks to the McLane office for the account (Make checks payable to McLane PTSO and indicate ‘McLane Gift Giving Program’ in memo line)

Thank you for your support and spirit of giving this upcoming holiday season! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office at 596-6600.

Library News

Thank you so much for supporting McLane’s library and visiting the Scholastic Book Fair during conference week and the Barnes and Noble Fair.  Between the two fairs we raised about $1200 to use towards books for our McLane Library.
