NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Happy October!

What a remarkable month September has been and we are here to embrace what the future holds. Please join me in giving a huge shout out to teachers; they have been remarkable this first month of school and have been working relentlessly to ensure your student has the best possible experience for this school year. Our teachers at McLane are phenomenal and I am truly humbled to work alongside them.

During our school board meeting on September 28th, Superintendent Murphy discussed our phases and metrics to bring students back to campus. In the near future, families will begin seeing our district do more and more to bring students back. You can follow along our process at this website:

https://www.osd.wednet.edu/our_district/district_information/fall_2020_school_reopening_plans

Regardless of what stage of distance, hybrid, or in-person learning we are in, please know you have an amazing team of educators at McLane to support your students and families. I can say with complete confidence that we will do everything we can to support your family and provide a phenomenal education for your student.

ATTENDANCE:

Starting Monday, 10-05-2020 OSD will require us to mark attendance as excused or unexcused.  So far this year we have coded all attendance as “COVID Related”.  This has allowed us time to make accommodations for online learning. Knowing that the change will happen starting Monday please ensure that each student is checking into the portal correctly every day. Here is a short video to watch  Student Attendance Video. Please make sure that the student clicks on the submit button.
Attendance can be taken at any time throughout the day. For students who do not, sign into the portal or have contact with their teacher, will have a call sent out the next day to alert the parent/guardian of their absences.  Please call our attendance line 360 596-6603 to let McLane know the reason for the absence.

BULB PLANTING:

McLane School Families,

Every year since 1992, the students at McLane Elementary have planted trees or bulbs in our neighborhood.  This year we will plant 5000 daffodil bulbs that have been donated by the McLane School Forest and Trails Committee.  Because of COVID, this year we will plant THIS SATURDAY.

PLEASE BRING YOUR FAMILY AND JOIN US THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3, AT THE MCLANE FIRE HALL.  YOU CAN PICK UP A BAG OF BULBS THERE AND PLANT THEM IN NUMEROUS LOCATIONS NEARBY.  ALL OF THE HOLES HAVE BEEN PRE DUG.  IT WILL ONLY TAKE A BIT OF YOUR DAY AND IS A VERY WORTHWHILE EXPERIENCE FOR THE KIDS.

10 AM TIL 2 PM.  SATURDAY,  OCTOBER 3.  MCLANE FIRE STATION.

Thank you.  We hope to see you there.

Ralph Munro, Bob Barnes, Dave Pearsall

Thank you to everyone who has donated money for daffodil bulbs this year.

If you have not contributed to bulbs this year and desire to do so, we still could use more money.  Please send checks to kids bulb planting, McLane Elementary School, 200 Delphi Road, Olympia WA, 98502. Your donation is Tax deductible. A special thank you to each and every person who has donated to the fund.
